About applying for or renewing a dangerous goods vehicle licence
You can apply for or renew a dangerous goods vehicle licence by post or in person at a service centre.
Your vehicle must be licensed if the capacity of the containers it transports:
- exceeds 500 litres or kilograms for a container
- exceeds 3000 litres for a single IBC (intermediate bulk container) or total capacity of IBCs, not filled or emptied on the vehicle
- are a Risk Category 3 load for Class 1 (explosives).

What you need to apply or renew
To complete the application form (PDF, 1.75MB) you need:
- your personal details
- insurance policy details
- vehicle details (including type of vehicle and registration information)
- a vehicle compliance declaration
- payment.
Can I apply or renew?
To apply for a licence:
- the vehicle and equipment must be in a safe condition (PDF, 2.2MB)
- personal protective equipment and vehicle safety equipment must be provided
- the tank design and construction must have documented evidence verifying design approval and tank compliance
- the vehicle must be roadworthy (PDF, 2.2MB)
- the vehicle must satisfy all relevant provisions of the Australian Code for the Transport of Explosives by Road and Rail (AE Code).

You do not need to prove your identity.
