- An electrical restricted licence allows you to carry out limited electrical work, such as refrigeration and air conditioning, motors, and composite equipment.
- You will need an electrical restricted licence if you need to carry out some electrical work as a part of your normal work duties.

About renewing an electrical restricted licence
You must renew your electrical restricted licence to continue to carry out some limited electrical work which is necessary for your normal work duties.
Categories of an electrical restricted licence include:
- refrigeration and air conditioning
- instrumentation and control
- electronics
- water heaters
- composite equipment
- control devices
- gas appliances
- motors
- explosion protection equipment.
If you completed your training more than 3 years ago, you must contact TasTAFE or another registered training organisation to complete further training.

How to renew
What you need to renew
You must provide:
- proof you have completed continuing professional development
- answers to a set of declaration questions (with any supporting documents)
- payment.
If you need a new photo to finalise your renewal, you must visit a service centre with proof of identity documents.
Can I renew?
You must:
- be a fit and proper (PDF, 147KB) person
- have explained why you need a restricted licence (a letter from your employer or a Statutory Declaration if you are self-employed)
- have the relevant qualifications, training, competencies and experience for the type of electrical work you want to do.
Proving your identity
You do not need to prove your identity.
