Key info
- You need an electrical contractor licence to sell electrical services to the public, business or government.
- Electrical work includes the installation, repair, alteration or removal of electrical infrastructure, electrical circuit or associated fittings, equipment or accessories.
- An electrical contractor licence must be renewed every year.
- If your renewal is successful, you receive confirmation within 21 days.

About renewing an electrical contractor licence
When you renew a licence you must nominate a responsible person in the business as your nominated manager. Your nominated manager must hold an electrical practitioner licence.

What you need to renew
You must provide:
- a digital copy of your certificate of currency for insurance
- answers to a set of declaration questions (with any supporting documents)
- payment.
Can I renew?
You must:
- be a fit and proper (PDF, 147KB) person
- have a strong and stable financial background
- have the relevant qualifications and competencies (if you wish to undertake electrical work personally)
- hold an adequate insurance coverage (at least $5 million per incident)
- nominate an electrical practitioner licence holder to be a nominated manager.
