  • You must have a permit to hold a fireworks display on cracker night.
  • Cracker Night falls on 24 May each year. If this date is not a Saturday, the following Saturday will apply.
    • All other fireworks displays must be performed by a pyrotechnician.

      Fireworks displays held without a permit are illegal and attract large fines.

      How to apply

      What you need to apply

      To apply you must visit a service centre and:

      • provide a completed application form (PDF, 1.5MB) provided by WorkSafe Tasmania ahead of cracker night each year
      • provide photo identification showing your date of birth
      • pay a fee.

      Anyone over 18 can apply.
