Apply for, renew, amend or cancel a Property Identification Code

All properties with cattle, sheep, goats or pigs must be registered and have a PIC allocated to buy, sell and move livestock. It is also required to order NLIS devices. A fee will apply for these properties.

Registration is also recommended for properties with other types of livestock, or non-animal, primary industry enterprises and hobby farms. No fees apply for these properties.

Apply to register a PIC

To apply online you must:

• complete an online form
• pay a fee (if applicable)

To apply at a service centre you must:

• complete application form A - cattle, sheep goats, or pigs (PDF, 369KB) or application form B - other primary producers (PDF, 650KB)
• if you are not the owner the property, you must provide evidence of authority to operate on the property, e.g. lease agreement, letter from the property owner etc.
• pay a fee (if applicable)

Renew a PIC

PICs are not currently due for renewal.  Renewal forms will be posted to PIC holders when it is time to renew. You cannot renew until you receive your renewal notice.

To renew at a service centre you must:

• have your renewal notice
• if you are not the owner the property, you must provide evidence of authority to operate on the property, e.g. lease agreement, letter from the property owner etc.
• pay a fee 

Amend a PIC

To amend online* you must:

• have your PIC number
• complete an online form
• pay a fee (if applicable)

To amend at a service centre you must:

• complete application form C - cattle, sheep goats, or pigs (PDF, 410KB) or application form F - other primary producers (PDF, 432KB)
• if you are not the owner the property, you must provide evidence of authority to operate on the property, e.g. lease agreement, letter from the property owner etc.
• pay a fee (if applicable)

Cancel a PIC

To cancel online* you must:

• have your PIC number
• complete an online form

To cancel at a service centre you must:

• complete PIC application form G (PDF, 179KB)

Update contact or capacity details

To update online* you must:

• have your PIC number
• complete an online form

To update at a service centre you must:

• complete application form E (PDF, 309KB)

Anyone can apply for, renew, amend or cancel a PIC.

If you are not the owner the property, you must provide evidence of authority to operate on the property, e.g. lease agreement, letter from the property owner etc.

You do not need to prove your identity.

* PIC fees apply for identifiable livestock - cattle, sheep, goats and pigs. PICS for other purposes will remain free of charge.

Service Centre

Service Tasmania service centres will not accept personal cheques from 1 November 2026. Business and bank cheques will be accepted until 1 January 2028.
