Overview

In response to an eligible disaster under the Tasmanian Relief and Recovery Arrangements - Personal Hardship and Distress Assistance Policy, the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPAC) provides financial support to community members who have been directly impacted by the December 2025 bushfire emergency and are experiencing hardship.

Types of Available Funding

The following financial support programs may be available for this natural disaster. Each grant has its own purpose and eligibility requirements.

1. Emergency Assistance Grants (EAGs)

Provides immediate support for individuals and families who have been displaced or unable to return home due to the bushfire emergency.

Covers essential needs such as:

  • temporary shelter
  • food
  • transport
  • personal items

Available programs:

2. Essential Service Outage Grants (ESOGs)

Supports low-income households experiencing hardship due to an essential service outage lasting 5 days (120 hours) or more, such as:

  • power
  • water
  • sewerage

This grant helps with extra costs like food, water and additional travel during the outage.

Available program:

3. Recovery and Restoration grants (R&R Grants)

Provides support to low-income households whose principal place of residence has been damaged or destroyed in the emergency.

Support may include:

  • Temporary Living Expenses
  • Replacement of Household Items
  • Repair and Restoration of the home

Make an Application

Applications for all bushfire support grants are submitted through the Department of Premier and Cabinet’s grants management system, SmartyGrants.

  • If you have applied for emergency grants before, please log in using your existing SmartyGrants account.
  • New users will need to create a SmartyGrants account before starting an application.
